pockets

My staple shorts are the classic, city-fit jcrew shorts that I own in probably 8 or  9 different colors. Or nike running shorts.

Now the jcrew shorts are simple and easy. But the pockets are small.
the running shorts have these wonderful tiny little pockets that sit right above your right side hipbone that hold about 2 dollars in cash and a house key. i've thought it was just ideal. the freedom of not carrying anything but my house key and a few dollars.

until today. I bought a pair of huge light blue shorts. They sit perhaps even above my belly button. the pockets are enormous. I was filled with jealous of men today....(this has never happened before) everything i possibly needed fit into these pockets and they were large enough to almost conceal my keys, my cell phone, my chapstick, my drivers license, my debit card, my ponytail holder, change, and some gum. No purse.

Nothing heavy hanging across my body. Nothing to return to retrieve when forgotten. Nothing to stress about in restaurants or while studying  near "sketchers". and pockets severely limits the about of "stuff" lugged around with you. Nothing to hop into the car with and get stuck while trying to close the door, nothing to throw you off balance when climbing various obstacles, nothing to interfere with your choice of shoes, belt, etc. Nothing to take up enormous amounts of space in your closet.

If only all my clothes had these pockets... i wouldn't carry snacks, bandaids, pepper spray, my camera, a note pad, a pen, some highlights, lipgloss, ipod, all the jewelry that I start out wearing and then take off being it's bothersome, cell phone charger, a book to read, a long to-do list, etc. Life would be simpler.

I just wish the fanny pack would come back into style. I might seriously have to break out during football season. I've just left my purse too many place too many times before.  Also dresses with pockets are just phenomenonal. It certainly helps with the "i feel awkward" because I'm so dressed up and I don't know anyone here events that leave you clueless with what to do with your hands. usually i clasp them together in a " i might have some experience singing along with a harp" -esque pose that completely doesn't line up with anything in my past.

welcome back to athens, laura!

almost alice

Guess who???

hint- it's someone I miss a lot.

windows for walls

Right now, I'm at home in Madison sitting at this table writing letters. I haven't been home during the day in long time...especially not since these trees blossomed. It's gorgeous. This is my favorite room in the house.

diy- how to be as creative and artistic as hannah in 3 minutes

In case I haven't ever said it before...I admire Hannah's creativity. I know that I'm not the only one. Here's a simple, quick project to help the rest of us decorate in attempts of creating rooms as interesting as the ones Hannah inhabits.

Materials needed
Clipboards. At office max
Nails- ( More than four!)
Jeff Anderson
Pictures, Magazine clippings, quotes

(This would be a great way to post memory verses and easily swap them out)

life in plastic. it's fanastic.

A few weekends ago, my family and I traveled for to Knoxville, Tennessee for Daniel's high school graduation. While we were there...we got to talking about our barbies. Well, all other females were reminiscing about their barbies and which ones they would never forget and their absolute favorite outfits that they had. I never really caught on the the barbie doll concept...after a while I wasn't given anymore because I chopped their hair off and usually popped off all their heads. Nowadays, the idea of creating outfits for a doll comes across as very appealing. I would love to design miniature versions of dream outfits. My Nana actually had her old collection of barbie dolls. I thought they were really neat- especially the clothes that she and her grandmother made.

rain rain go away but come again another day

Today was just another lazy day in athens. yesterday was great. last night I got to play 4 square in the rain. I haven't played 4 square probably 3 or 4 years. Once...I did play 9 square. It was unbelievable. I just got back from a run. Stopped by Abby D's house for the first time ever...and she lives down the street from me...ridiculously cute house. She says that's because she lives with two art majors.

I'm just cooking up a dish for an all girls dinner over at Ladydale right now. I'm wearing my anthropologie apron. I feel beyond domestic right now. it's wonderful.

sweet summer time

It's Sunday afternoon and I'm sitting on Springdale front porch writing letters and trying to get caught up on all my friends' summer adventures. My maymester class ended last Wednesday. Since then my time has been nothing but a blessing. I realized I've been on not one, and not two, but three family road trips in the past month. One funeral, one high school graduation, and one wedding. Out of out state, of course, so lots of FFF time in the car. FFF, in case you're wondering, stands for Forced Family Fun time. I'm mostly kidding.

I'm so thankful for everyone here in Athens! Liza and Maggie P. just got back from taking kids to camp so I'm looking forward to time with them this week. Josh and Holly just left for a week with our Wyldlife kids. So please keep that trip in your prayers this week.

Yesterday I went to Georgia's Strongest Man competition with Kasey. Let's just say that's not something either one of us would have randomly decided to have gone to but it certainly was interesting! Kasey is such an awesome girl and I really enjoyed talking to her and learning from her! Tons of people went to Cali N Titos last night for dinner followed but soccer on Herty Field and then a trip to TC pool. It was great Saturday. I also got to spend time with Supriya, from high school, on Friday while going on a thifting adventure. We weren't very successful in finding much. I did find a Beth Moore book, To Live is Christ, for a dollar. I'm looking forward to reading that.

Laura F. came home from Australia last night. I was super excited to see her. I have some cute pictures of her and Stephen dancing at dinner. Australia is somewhere where I've always wanted to go. I can't wait for people to get back in Athens so I can see all their pictures. I know most of them will be posted to facebook and other various websites but it's so much more interesting when they get the chance to narrator all their picture albums and share their reactions and thoughts.

If you missed Classic City this morning- You really missed out! The electricity went out. So everything was acoustic.

food cravings

I definitely experience food cravings. This morning I stumbled upon a certain health blog that explained why we crave certain foods and instead of ignoring or indulging in them that we should look that what type of raw food our body is actually trying to tell us that is needs. Here is the complete list.

I break cars

Okay, so not actually break...but I certainly thought so. Last night I was babysitting and my car failed to start around 1am....stressful...but I usually try not to focus on stressful stories unless they are also funny...and this one really wasn't.

I'm babysitting right now. Meredith is currently counting my teeth as I type. This update is going to have to abruptly end because Meredith is now demanding to "spinned"

40 watt

Mackenzie showed up at my door Wednesday morning around 9am....suitcase in hand. She's now living with me and fan. Definitely makes me wish I had two roommates all the time.

Yesterday, I visited cloverhurst library. found some interesting books. Got about 100 pages into one today. I am so looking forward to all the free time to just read. To do nothing else but sit around and read, hang out, cook, go running, go to concerts downtown, hang out with practically strangers, learn everything I can about Spain, nap anytime, and just love everything that a Maymester brings.

I'm even more in love with my legal studies professor today than I was yesterday. She just makes it so intriguing. I'm not lying....but 3 hours kind of goes by fast....and if you ever taken a class with me...30 minutes goes by extremely slow.

I'm all ears for books recommendations......
P.S- In the spirit of legal studies....if you have an abundance of grisham books...I would love that. I'd read a fairly large amount...but would really like to borrow some that I haven't.

Sam Helig at the 40 watt tonight. I'm excited. I love the 40 watt.

Love Story

I'm absolutely obsessed with this song. Jon Schmidt is incredible. (Fun fact- He was the composer of 'Bella's Lullaby' for all you Twilight fans out there)

dark green

Today, I learned about all the Supreme Court Justices. My professor showed videos of all them- I loved how she shared about their personalities instead of just their political views and associations.

Still in need of finding a bike helmet, I'd really prefer not to buy a new one. Perhaps I can find one at Potter's House or Habitat.

I'm actually quite proud of myself- I made three bins in my kitchen for recycling- One for Plastic, one for glass, and one for aluminum. Let's just hope I follow through with taking it to the recycling bins. I call this being "dark green" meaning...I try but often fail to completely follow through.

Legal Studies

I'm taking Legal Studies 2700 this May. It's slightly intimidating. I'm excited to learn. I'm actually eager to go to class tomorrow morning. I actually usually enjoy most of my class- except for chemistry and organic chemistry- those made me picture my brain turning to goop and slowly oozing out of my ears. Yeah. It was that hard. So, get ready because I'll probably be posting a fair amount of information that I learn in class on here. Because, I just know, that'll it's be that interesting. Wow. What a poorly constructed sentence.

Tuesday

Well I just got back from a run and now I'm boiling a big pot of brussels sprouts. Sounds very unappetizing but I've actually grown used to them and I'm starting to really like them. I put Peppercorn Ranch dressing and chicken on top and I find it delicious! Brussels sprouts have a good amount of vitamin A and C, folic acid and fiber. Also! They may protect against colon cancer because they contain singrin! ( Be careful not to overcook because they release glucosinolate sinigrin (releasing the sinigrin)...I'm not really sure how long to cook them yet...I just sample them to make sure they're not getting too soft.

The Milledge Bus doesn't seem to be running for the month of May...I found that out the hard way this morning. But! May is National Bike Month and May 21 is Bike-to-Work day...so I'm determined to start riding my bike to campus.(I'm afraid of packing my laptop until I get a plastic case to attach to it.)
* I read recently that if you bike to work that the Bicycle Commuter Act entitles you to 20 dollars a month. I think that's pretty exciting if you're in the work field...saving on gas and getting extra money.

insight

I also wanted to share a little bit of insight or wisdom that I've gained about studying during the past week

1) "Study parties" do not work. Nothing about getting together a group of people and making extremely sugary snacks leads to studying. This leads to chatting. excessive chatting.

2) Studying anywhere downtown. Even on a Sunday. It just doesn't work. This also just leads to lots of talking and running into people you haven't seen in a while.

3) Studying by the pool...in theory it is a wonderful idea. In reality, the sun makes it hard to see and it doesn't help when you start to drip sweat on your notes.

4) Studying in bed...in your pajamas...under the covers...with your head on the pillow...and one eye shut...this just leads to...well...you know...sleeping.

5)Studying during commercial breaks. Commercial breaks always end up being used for more important things, like bathroom breaks, trips to kitchen, calling your mom back after you denied her call, etc.

6)Studying a borders....eventually you just end up eavesdropping on other people's conversations

7) Studying on a laptop...that has wireless internet. The world wide web will always trump whatever else you're studying.

8) Gchatting about "school" and the "subject" this will last about 2 minutues...and then go in a completely different direction.

9) Studying in the SLC...why anyone ever thinks this is a good idea and why I even bothe I don't know...first of all- people are annoying there- they are burnt out and half of them just sit on a facebook the whole entire time anyways...so then I HAVE to count the number of people I find per floor on facebook...so time consuming but makes me feel way better about my life.

10) Studying in the car....yeah right.

11) Setting your alarm early to wake up study. Somehow waking up in the morning takes about 30 minutes to shift back into the right state of mind. I swear I'm possessed by some other Taylor that will gladly skip all classes, lie about being sick, loosing her car or keys, perhaps even a close call with death for a few minutes of extra sleep. I don't know this "taylor" but she makes me late all the time and convinces me that another whole point off my average for an absence isn't that big of a deal.

12)Coffee Shops- Loud music, lots of people...loud people...people that find themselves very interesting so they want to make sure everyone else picks up on this by drawing unnecessary attention to themselves...caffeine...tiny tables...wobbly chairs...guys who rock to the music that is so loud through their headphones that you can literally names each song. the dark brooding college guy in the corner that stares at you creepily.

Well looks like I learned a lot in Spring Semester 2010.

Emerald Isle

I'm up in Emerald Isle, North Carolina for my first weekend of summer. I just walked back in the hotel door from dinner- crab cakes- one of my favorites. My cousin Jade's wedding was earlier today. It was on the beach- even the preacher took his shoes off! I loved the informality that came with the ceremony being on the beach. There's something about being dressed up and barefoot that I just love. It was a beautiful wedding and certainly made me start daydreaming about my own wedding one day. I had the best time catching up with relatives, dancing, and being out in the sun. - I'll post pictures once they're upload to my computer

The Jane Austen Book Club is on tv right now...I've always wanted to watch this..unfortunately looks like I'll be watching from starting in the middle. Maybe just because I think Hugh Dancy is perhaps one of the best looking men to ever grace television.

There are just so many things in life to which I'm looking forward.
