24 hour grocery stores

Living by yourself is interesting to say the least. There's always this slight fear of slipping into an actuality composed purely of my own thoughts. I sit down to do something or think about something and I just get swept away. An hour will pass and I'll realize that I've just been lost in my own head with nothing to interrupt, divert or distract.

I curled up in an euphoric pile of a fresh, hot whites straight out of the dryer and watched "Like Crazy" late this evening. I had been wanting to see it for quite some time but typically steer away from any love story that looks like it has the potential and capacity to be heart wrenching. I figured it'd be another low-budget indy film where the characters bond over their love for the same music, books, oddities, and quirks. That, I can handle quite well. It's hardly believable anyways, but endearing in the relatable way that I have experienced fleeting adoration for boys who share my peculiar way of seeing things or perhaps just happen to also have an affinity for burritos, archie comic books, science fiction, and comparative literature.

I hated every moment of the entire movie. It was gripping, compulsive, enthralling, and engrossing. The film itself was tedious and more like snap shots of their relationship but I don't think anyone can sit through it without it resonating with their own harsh, revolting, and sometimes jarring humanity. We, as people, just suck learning to love selflessly. Perhaps I hated "Like Crazy" so much because it just served as an hour and half long reminder of how I've failed to put others first.

I was in such a melancholic state that I didn't know what else to do aside from go to the 24-hour grocery store. I love grocery stores in the same way that I love libraries. They are so full of potential, and so undeveloped. They house the components of any great meal. Just, all spread out, raw, uncooked, packaged up, and stacked.

I just wandered around until I snapped out of it, checked out, and returned to my car to listen to Call Me, Maybe and return home. Grocery store trips are always hilarious in their own way. A guy told me that I must have gotten a lot of sun recently to have such dark freckles on my shoulders and back. How does one even go about responding to a statement like that? I said, yes, that I had forgotten to put on sunscreen over the weekend. Then I just awkwardly shuffled away. Engaging in midnight conversations with strangers complimenting your freckles sounds like a very bad plan to me. No more off the shoulders tops to be worn to kroger. Lesson learned.

darlin' I need you like ships need the sea

Sweet sweet summer is finally here.

Exams are over.

Indianapolis was wonderful.

2nd day of work down.

"I can see it in her Cherokee eyes
Those baby browns and the golden thighs
What you doing for the rest of your life?
Cause you don't want, don't wanna go"

Eating peaches that I picked up in South Carolina for dinner.

So much to blog about. So much to think about. I wish I could just stop time right now and bask in the glory of summer for months and months. With sunburnt lips, a freckled nose, and a pinkish brown glow from too much, or perhaps the perfect amount of sun.

My roommates are all moved out. It feels empty, especially without Marie's laugh filling the house. She's the only person I've met that laughs as much and as loudly as I do. I wouldn't be the slightly bit surprised if our neighbors secretly despised us or at least were dumbfounded about how that many things could be THAT funny at all hours of the day.

After a year of meowing through the wall to the cat next door, I'm officially giving up on ever hearing a response back. Perhaps, I overestimated my abilities and I actually sound nothing like a cat. I do have other talents. I'll be okay. (I hope everyone knows I'm completely kidding about this)

I love empty rooms. I've been hanging out in Marie and Crystal's bare, furniture-less room. To me, empty rooms are magical in a childish, spontaneous, whimsical way. So full of potential. So capable of transitioning to anything. I remember moving into Pope St. and cooking my first meal and eating on the floor with plastic silverware from wendys while watching a movie on my tiny tv (also placed on the floor).

Waiting to get picked up to go play frisbee golf. I thought it was ultimate, so I was excited but I'm quite horrible about frisbee golf. But it's on north campus so I'm thrilled about that. Hanging out on north carmpus at night time is my favorite. It'd be the perfect night to wade around in the fountain.

Who knew that with every passing year, life would wind up being more and more fun?

I thought adolescent was the peak of childhood bliss and carefree joy. I'm pleasantly surprised to report that each day winds up having new adventures, new joys, and new smiles. It's such a charming, mysterious, and sometimes even whimsical adventure.

I'm committed to challenging myself each day to try something new, broaden my horizons, think outside the box, and push myself beyond what I think I am capable of. I know I sound cliche and cheesy and that drives me up the wall- but in a real way. A way to transform the way I see things and the way I relate to others.

It's not a radical change. This isn't a new year's resolution. This isn't 4 days going to the gym and then a 4 month hiatus, or a new organizing system that is never utilized, or a fitness and health food kick. Nope. This is a slow, gradual, I'm-still-going-to-lounge-on-my-couch-frequently type of change. I'm not trying to move mountains or be revolutionary here. I'm not even intending to "motivate" or "inspire" someone. (Let's be real, we all secretly blog because we imagine others being moved by our lifestyles and choices and that will be impart such great wisdom upon a post one that that the core of a reader is stirred to the point of change and action). No, not one of those posts, just a record for me to write down that I appreciate my life exactly the way it is...it's one of those moments where I couldn't dream up anything that would make it better, nor would I change anything about it.

I can't stop time. I can't stay in college forever (even though I am really good at being in college). So, cheers to living up my fifth and final year.

Just got back from an absolutely delicious lunch downtown. I've climbed back into the fort-- which by the way, makes you feel like you're camping in the middle of your living room. It's incredible. It surrounds the front windows so during the day we pull up the blinds and pull back the curtains. The inside of the fort is transcended. The christmas lights are also the perfect touch.

I'm reading through a tumblr bucket list made by a girl who graduated a few years ago. Goodness gracious, I am so thankful I am not graduating. Despite this being finals week, it's been so adventurous. Adventurous, in the simplest way possible. The choice of deciding that joy is limitless, boundless, and exploding from the smallest things in life.

Bacon peanut butter burgers from clocked, all day study seshs in ECV dining hall, magical study forts, golden pantry candy trips, athens festivals, georgia theatre roof top bar, the uga chapel, birthdays, guacamole, ....

someone hopping out of their car without putting it in park to give a friend a hug.....okay, I confess. It was me..... but thankfully someone else hopped it and stopped it. You're a superstar.

Lite N' Luscious smoothies, banana peppers, booking flights, david crowder band, the blue book, motown music, swing dancing, american flag painted cut off jean shorts,

let it go

"I'm there in the storm.
My love I will keep you, by My pow'r alone.
I don't care where you fall, where you have been.
I'll never forsake you, My love never ends.
It never ends."

Sometimes I love staying up by myself until it's almost sunrise. Here, at ____ Street, we've built two forts. I've been settled into my little one by the kitchen window since midnight. It's so cozy under here with a lamp, almond joys, coffee, spotify playlists,  cognitive neuro notes, peace, and  joy.

"I've been holding on so tight
Look at these knuckles
They've gone white
I'm fighting for who I wanna be
I'm just trying to find security

But You say let it go, You say let it go
You say life is waiting for the one's who lose control
You say you will be, everything I need
You said if I lose my life it's then I'll find my soul
You say let it go"

Dear Twilight, You're one of my hands down favorite weekends of the year. I am thankful for beautiful weather, friendships, fellowship, and bike racing! Dear Ava's birthday, I am so ridiculously thankful that this girl was born 21 year old. What would I do without the blonde version of me? Hahaha. Ava, you're incredible and everyday I am just uplifted by our time together and your presence in my life. Dear SAC, you all are just like a family to me. I cannot believe so many of you are graduating. Know how much I have appreciated every single one of you in my life! Dear Maggie, Our slumber party was the best. You bring so much joy in my life and I always wish we had more time together. The way you love our Lord is so beautiful to me. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that we wind up living in the same city again one day!

mail-man

I bet my mail man wonders why I'm almost always home in the middle of the day when the mail arrives, just waiting like a golden retriever.

He sees me. I wait by the window. I wave. He laughs. He thinks I'm nuts. Simple joys.

What's even funnier is that I hardly ever get mail. But how would he know my name? My roommates always get letters. I hope he assumes I'm one of the letter receivers.  Nope. I am the letter catcher. It falls through the mail slot and I run and get it and put it on the stairs. That's it. That's my simple, enjoyable, one o'clock tradition.

50% of the time "Call Me, Maybe" is blasting.

I don't do classes during the "lunching" hours of the day. Lunch time is my favorite time of the day. It's time for dancing, lounging, arnold palmering, laundry, and making spotify playlists.

fun fun fun fun fun fun. the format fun.

Oh my goodness. I literally freaked out this morning when I found out that the lead singer and song writer for "Fun" is the same guy, Nate Ruess, from THE FORMAT. Needless to say, if you knew me in high school at all, you know I'm overjoyed. I've been blasting this one all afternoon.  Euphoric. It's like my heart is jumping up and down and shimmering all around.

Dear Arnold Palmers

Dear Arnold Palmers, My mom recently asked me why I have had over seven chick-fil-a charges in the past week on my card. You're just irresistible. Not to mention you're a staple of mine and Ava's friendship. Dear Arch training, you've been so much fun and I am just so excited about all of the new amazing people I've met. You're all remarkable. Dear coral lipstick, I am so thankful to slowly gaining my summer tan back and you're my favorite part of spring and summer. You really know how to make a girl feel beautiful. Dear Classic City, I am so excited about next year. Dear boys that yell out their windows when Ava and I run, We may roll our eyes and make faces like we're annoyed but know that we secretly we love it and it's actually quite motivating. Let's pretend like I'm not secretly flattered... Dear Mackenzie, you are just the best little sister. I am looking forward to our dinner tonight.  Dear roses on my kitchen table, you brighten my day every morning. I wish you wouldn't die. Or I wish you'd just be replaced every week ;) Dear Jesus, thank you for the strength to be vulnerable, fearless, and joyful. Dear Woodchuck Cider, if you're made from 100% granny smith apples, does that make you a fruit? I hope you're cool with me counting you as part of my daily fruit intake. Dear Nike Shorts, You guys are the best. I know people think you're overrated, don't listen to them. I love living in you. You're comfortable, flattering, and a strong advocate of a healthy lifestyle! Dear Athens Academy Community and Sixth Grade Class, You all are stellar. You almost made me cry with how much you love each other and how willing you all are to work together to make a difference in the life of one of your classmates. I consider myself truly blessed to have had the opportunity to help out with Be A Hero for Kajal. I will be keeping her in my prayers. Dear tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, and every year afterwards, I am looking forward to you.

grace. growth. joy.

Ahhhh. Post-Spring Break is always one of my favorite times of the year.

Spring Break was wonderful. A lot of time traveling in the car with my mom. It was so sweet to spend so much time with her and learn so much from her wisdom. She's truly remarkable and understands so much about what it means to love others, to love Jesus, and to persevere.

I've spent the morning trying on dresses and shoes while watching Project Runway! I love having an early morning class and then a long break until an afternoon class. It gets me up and ready and then gives me time to come home and enjoy the rest of the morning and lunch time. The Regent's Gala is this weekend and I am so excited that I get to go! I'll be posting pictures of the black lace dress I'm wearing soon!

Last weekend was the Perfectly Polished Spring Formal.  I cannot time you all how much I secretly love wearing a big white dress, dancing all evening, and spending time with sweet little kids.

My internship with Eli Lilly is all final for the summer! I think I will celebrate soon by accepting my position with Lilly with a visit to the Lilly Pulitzer store! I'll be living in Athens too! :)

My parents have been discussing moving to Athens. Which makes me so excited. I have been pinning interiors for the past week on a new pinboard.

I'm startin with the [wo]man in the mirror

This year I sat down and thought about what were two aspects of my life that were not only unproductive for my personal growth and development of character but were also dishonoring to the Lord's plan for my life and His plan to grow me.

Both of these strike at the heart of "Comparison is the thief of all joy".

1) Gossip. Gossip just cuts and divides us all quicker than swords. No one escapes it but everyone can choose to not partake in it. Gossip is a particular weakness of mine. I love to "be in the know" and hear everything about everyone else. In way, I think, I find it validating. I feel important because I know about the mishaps and mistakes of my friends and extended friend group and cover up my flaws with the knowledge of other's. Every time I give in and divulge an "ugly" thought about someone else I had or repeat a  negative thought that shared with in....I have to think of and say three, sincere, kind things about that individual.

2) Facebook. I deactivated until Easter. I am hoping that this "disconnection" will enable me to cherish and value the people that are in my life on a daily basis and love them more.  I also hope that I will spend the time I gain from not being on facebook on things that are productive and beneficial.

disclaimer. shoes are fun.

Shoes. Some people come with baggage. I come with shoes. And I like them displayed and out in the open where I can see them all. What's the point in having them if you keep them hidden away in your closet? Right now they are all over our book shelves in the upstairs hall way, in a basket by the door, in another basket on the stairs, lining the stairs, in a hanging shoe case in the closet, in another hang shoe case nailed to the back of my closet wall, and kicked off in various locations through out our house. Not to mention that my summer shoes are at home at my parent’s house. I imagine that the lucky man that I eventually may marry one day may not enjoy having little, sometimes ridiculous looking, shoes scattered all over the place. Oh well, I view them as an adorable extension of my personality and their presence is nonnegotiable.  The basket by the door and by the stairs are my attempt to consolidate them together in a limited number of locations. They are hazard because even I trip over them. But I love them. When I get a new pair I just cannot wait to wear them. Sometimes I cook in new shoes if I get impatient waiting for the right occasion. Sometimes I dance in my living room with them on. Just breaking them in, you know?

High of 75

Dear High of 75, you may just be my absolutely favorite temperature. I was so excited when you were declared the high of today. Maybe it's the Relient K song and all the memories that make it so great. This song inspired a game for me in high school that involved picking different activities to correspond to different ranges of temperatures for the next day without checking the weather forecast. Sometimes temperatures between 50 and 60 degrees would result in studying. Temperatures between 60 and 70 would result in studying outside. Temperatures in the 70's involved no studying only pure silliness and fun. Free periods are definitely top five on list of favorite things from high school.

set fire to the rain

Dear UPSP, You realize that I was waiting for an important letter all weekend but Pope St. has failed to receive mail since last wednesday? It's okay. You have 2 more days before I show up.  3 phone calls should suffice.  Dear Friday Night, I'm picking out which dress I'm going to wear right now instead of studying.  Please be warm.  I'm ready for sundresses. Dear Mallory, Thank you for accompanying me to lunch today. I so enjoyed it! You're always a dear to catch up with!  Dear Gluten Free Goodness in the form of Chocolate Chip Cookies,  I'm speechless. Later I'll probably be sick from the quantity of you I consumed.  Worth it. Dear four walls of currently empty house, when it's just you and me.....You know how I love to blast TSwift and KClarkson and dance around barefoot.  I am so thankful you, four walls, cannot talk, recall, remember, tweet, instagram, flipvideo, or share.  My silly dance moves tonight are for your eyes only.

Turns out....I don't like gifts?!

I was encouraged to take a cool online quiz today about discovering your primary "Love Language".

Turns out, I like Words of Affirmation and Quality Time.

And I showed absolutely zero preference for "Receiving Gifts". Which makes me laugh because I've been quite upset/annoyed about receiving things I really did not like before. Perhaps people are better off just never giving me things.

Except for giving me compliments. Apparently, I just thrive off being told how people feel about me and I do not respond well to not hearing these and I'm perhaps quite insensitive to acts of service, touch, and gifts.

Maybe this is because I can hardly ever come up with material things I want. For every gift giving occasion, I have to run to the internet, or pinterest for suggestions. I cannot remember the last Christmas or birthday that I did not google "best gift ideas for girls".

Go ahead, Learn something new about yourself today.
http://www.5lovelanguages.com/assessments/love/

Basically, This quiz is trying to tell me I make a really cheap friend. Perhaps if the quiz listed options about people giving you food, snacks, or gummy candies....that would be my love language.

Admit it.

Admit it, the first you did when you got your macbook was turn on all the camera settings and take 100 pictures of yourself making faces.

cause you're dead wrong.

Dear giant, purple, black, and yellow lump of a bruise on my thigh, you're thankfully slowly fading but you make me smile because I love the days when I'm rushing around too busy to notice sharp, edges jutting out.  Dear plastic cup that sat in our shower for at least a month or two holding our razors, sweet marie absentmindedly washed you and put you back in the cabinet. So hilarious that she's the one that decided to drink out of you today. I'm still chuckling.  Dear Ru Sans Dollar Sushi Pieces, I'm been thinking about you nonstop between the hours of 2pm and 4 pm everyday. You were also the perfect place for dinner on valentine's day. I seriously love cheap, simple food. But gluten free and dairy free still though, let's not try to pretend I'm that low maintenance.  Dear Upstairs Bourbon Street, you make me feel like a child every time. You have no idea how much I secretly love you. I get so excited anytime someone suggests you. I will always be content to climb up on a booth, sing and solo dance my heart out.  Dear Ava and Ashley, you two are incredible but I just want to reiterate that the men at chick-fil-a are basically paid to flirt with us. But sure, let's pretend there's really nothing they'd rather be doing than refilling our arnold palmers. They certainly good do a swell job of convincing us.  Dear rainy Sunday afternoon, I spend you blissfully curled back up in bed under all my blankets and pillows.  Dear Mackenzie, I am so incredible proud of you for being selected for your scholarship. I think you are remarkable, and I promise that's not just because we share the same DNA.  Dear nameless walker's barista, You told you could make my vanilla chai latte anyway I wanted. that you could even make it with whiskey.

love story- starting over

Tonight, I crawled up into my bed and scrolled through my twitter feed until I stumbled upon a tweet that spoke straight to my heart.   I reread it a few times before searching for page to write it down upon.  I clicked straight through to rest of this individual's tweets and just sat dumbfounded at the wrenching of my heart.  The scripture, the quotes of Christ's love for humanity, the truth, the mercy, the joy, and the compassion just broke into my little hardened heart.

For so long I wanted to be strong, to be tough, to be unbreakable.  I grew tired of being criticized for being too directionless, not ambitious enough,  and without the same mind set.  The part of me, so eager to please, wanted to grow into a lady who never wavered under the judgement of others.  With this intention, I ceased to remember what it felt like to know that "[His] grace is sufficient for [me], for [His] power is made perfect in weakness".

In my search for a scrap of paper I found a journal that was given to me by one of my neighbor's after my dad's funeral.  I tucked his funeral bulletin in the journal and stuck it deep inside my closet and never wanted to open it or look at it again.  Having completely forgotten this, I stretched up onto my tip-toes and jumped to grab the still vacant journal.

With my heart racing, I started whispering out loud to the Lord.  With my new journal and with my brand new bible, I googled: How to start reading the Bible.  I realized in a way, I was starting over.  I was starting fresh.  He waiting for me while I was hurting and skeptical.

Also, inside the journal, I found a book mark tucked inside addressed to me, " And they remembered that God was their rock. And the Most High God their redeemer" - Psalm 78:35

Dear 4:00 p.m. lunch, we may have been the only people in there but I think that made it even more fun. It's great to be different.

I really love my life.
